You've probably never heard of the Scott O'Dell Award for Historical Fiction, but it's a prestigious award given to a children's or young adult book that is published in English by a US publisher and set in the Americas. The award is named for the late Historical Fiction Author Scott O'Dell who wrote such beloved young adult novels as Island of the Blue Dolphins and others. Earlier ier this week, The Green Glass Sea by Ellen Klages won the 2007 Scott O'Dell Award. This interesting novel is about Dewey, a mechnically-minded 10-year-old who travels west to New Mexico to live with her father who's a scientist working on the Manhattan Project. Wow! That sounds like an interesting novel.
